Precious Human Live Scroll

TIB001 $12.00
"PRECIOUS HUMAN LIFE" SCROLL

When Susan Stephenson first went to Dharamsala, India to help the children in the Montessori classes of the Tibetan refugee settlement, she discovered a lively attempt to bring back the cultural arts and crafts that were beginning to be forgotten in Tibet. Since then she has worked with the refugee center to have a a few items, such as aprons and bibs, made of lovely Tibetan fabric for use in homes and school in the west.

She also brought back this inspiring quote from The Dalai Lama printed on a scroll made of canvas with cotton fabric trip, wooden stretchers at top and bottom, and silk tassels. Friends seeing it in the Stephenson home requested that Susan order for them, so now she has them shipped and offered on this site. They are not always available but are worth the wait. THe background is usually a neutral color as in the picture, and the tassels are made of whatever color yarn is available at the time. The width is 9 inches and the length, depending on who is printing and sewing, is between 9 inches and 18 inches. Always the complete quote is printed:

Every day, think as you wake up. Today I am fortunate to have woken up. I am alive, I have a precious human life. I am not going to waste it. I am going to use all my energies to develop myself, to expand my heart out to others, to achieve enlightenment for the benefit of all beings. I am going to have kind thoughts toward others, I am not going to get angry, or think badly about others. I am going to benefit others as much as I can. His Holiness the XIV Dalai Lama

RECORD KEEPING IN THE MONTESSORI CLASS
In Susan Stephenson's training at the AMI Maria Montessori Training Organization in London, England in 1970 I was given a record system that has worked for many years. Here is an overview of that method, along with suggestions on how exactly I gathered the data in the 3-6 classroom, and how I adapted it for the 6-12 classroom. There are also suggestions for the Infant Community, and for keeping records in the elementary class.

3-HOUR WORK PERIOD (

and OBSERVATION OF A 3-6 CLASS (Article Reprint)

The uninterrupted concentration of children, leading to "normalization" is the most important element of the Montessori experience. This is a reprint of a lecture on this crucial 3-hour work period, and how to "get there" in the Montessori 3-6 class. It was delivered by Susan Stephenson at the 1996 New Zealand Montessori Conference.
Included are example concentration graphs taken from Dr. Montessori's writings, a blank graph to be copied and used by teachers, and specific suggestions for eliminating group lessons, which are not Montessori.
Also included is a reprint of the article "Observation of a 3-6 Montessori Class," written in 1987 about the children's class at the Maria Montessori Training Center (AMI) in London, England, 22 pages.
